The Medici Family: Pivotal in Pawn History
The pawnbroking industry of today was largely born of a fifteenth century Italian family: the Medicis. The Medici family split itself occupationally—half became pawnbrokers, and the other half became bankers. To this day, the Medici family crest is incorporated into many pawnbrokers’ logos and signs: three balls connected by a string, chain, or rope.
Today
Today’s pawnbroking customers range from the wealthy to the working class. There could be any number of reasons for someone to want to turn their goods temporarily back into cash. The beauty of pawnbroking is its transparency and simplicity: let your assets work for you!
